Revolutionising Mattress Recycling for a Sustainable Future

Transforming polyurethane foam waste into valuable resources for a sustainable future in Canada.
At CyclePlastix, we're turning the problem of mattress waste into an opportunity for innovation.
Every year, millions of mattresses end up in landfills, taking up to 100 years to decompose.
We've developed a groundbreaking solution to recycle foam mattresses, converting waste into valuable raw materials for new products.

The Problem:

The Hidden Cost of a Good Night's Sleep

Did you know?
  • 25 million mattresses are discarded annually in North America

  • A single mattress can take up to 100 years to decompose

  • Mattresses occupy 400% more landfill space than average waste

  • The average person uses 8 mattresses in their lifetime, but it takes 650 years for them to decompose - that's nine human lifetimes!

  • Decomposing mattresses release toxic chemicals in landfills which end up in the water system

Conventional recycling methods are inefficient, processing less than 10% of mattress waste. The rest ends up in landfills or incinerators, releasing toxic chemicals and contributing to environmental degradation.

Our Solution:

Closing the Loop on Mattress Waste

Instead of sending to landfill, incineration and mechanical recycling, CyclePlastix has developed a revolutionary chemical recycling process for foam mattresses:

  • We collect discarded mattresses from Material Recovery Facilities

  • Our unique process breaks down the foam in a chemical reactor

  • We recover high-quality polyol, replacing up to 40% of virgin material in new foam products

  • The recovered polyol is sold to foam manufacturers, closing the recycling loop
